Psychological Consultation
Focused consultation for adults seeking to better understand concerns related to attention, mood, anxiety, behavior, or overlapping symptoms.
Understanding Your Concerns
A psychological consultation provides dedicated time to better understand your concerns, consider possible explanations, and identify the most appropriate next steps.
The process includes an in-depth clinical interview and targeted questionnaires or assessment measures when helpful. Clinical impressions and recommendations are based on the information gathered. When sufficient information is available, the consultation may also provide a diagnosis.
When a Consultation May Be Helpful
You are wondering whether ADHD, autism, OCD, a mood disorder, or another condition may be contributing to your experiences.
01
Your symptoms overlap, or your strengths and coping strategies have made areas of difficulty harder to recognize.
02
A previous diagnosis, evaluation, or course of treatment has not fully addressed your concerns.
03
You are unsure what type of treatment, provider, assessment, or support would be most appropriate.
04
Common Reasons for Consultation
Common areas of consultation include ADHD and neurodivergence, OCD and related concerns, perinatal mental health, and complex or overlapping diagnostic questions.
-
Consultation for adults exploring ADHD, autism, or overlapping neurodevelopmental concerns. This may be particularly useful when symptoms have been masked by strong academic or professional functioning, when previous diagnoses do not fully explain current difficulties, or when it is unclear whether formal evaluation would be helpful.
-
Consultation for individuals experiencing intrusive thoughts, compulsive behaviors, repetitive behaviors, or symptoms that may be difficult to distinguish from anxiety, perfectionism, or other conditions. Consultation can help clarify the nature of these concerns and identify appropriate treatment or further assessment.
-
Consultation for concerns arising during pregnancy, postpartum, or the transition to parenthood, including anxiety, intrusive thoughts, mood changes, adjustment difficulties, and questions about whether symptoms reflect an expected transition or a mental health condition requiring additional support.
-
Consultation when symptoms do not fit neatly into one diagnosis, multiple conditions may be contributing, or previous treatment has not fully addressed the problem. This may include questions involving anxiety, depression, trauma, personality, attention, or other overlapping concerns.
